This cycle of legendary songs, accompanied by the lute, is a typology of the Albanian national spiritual heritage, where the two brothers are at the center: Mujin and Halil.
The epic is found to be sung in the Great Highlands, Rranzat, Postribë, Shllak e Dukagjin, Nikaj, Mertur, Krasniqeja e Gashi, Bytyçi, Berishë, Has as well as in Kosovo in the Dukagjin Plain with the centers: Pejë, Gjakovë, Prizren, Rahovec, Deçan , Istog and Suhareka.
The time of its formation is localized to be before the Slavic influx in the Balkans, i.e. pre-Slavic and pre-Turkish.
For many researchers, its value is compared to the Homeric epic, the sagas of Scandinavia, the Kalevala, the Russian Nilinas, etc.
It was sung only in odes of friends, men’s assemblies, as well as in various parties, without material incentives for rhapsodes.
Among the special songs of the cycle we mention: “Muji’s marriage”, “Muji’s power”, “Muji’s hours”, “Ajkuna’s oil”, “Halili’s marriage”, “Muji and the three fairies of the mountain”, “Halili waits Pajo Harambashin”, “Hours of Bjeshka” etc. Many researchers have noticed the similarities of our epic with Homeric poems.
