Sejdi Bey Mosque, among the oldest mosques of Prizren, was built immediately after the Mosque of Jakub Bey, in the second half of the XV century, and is counted as the second mosque built in Prizren. According to the inscription and documents it is believed that the builder of the mosque is Sejdi Bey. It is located in the historical area of Prizren, on the Southern Bank of the river that runs through the city center.
In the mosque there are two inscriptions in the old Ottoman language where data are given on the renovations made at the beginning and the end of the century XIX.
Since the time of construction, it has been functional and in the service of the faithful for performing religious rituals, except here the time of the socialist period that was closed for a certain period, to be reopened again in 1994, renovated and again in the service of the citizens.
The building is built with traditional technique in the spirit of folk architecture. Like other mosques, the Sejdi Bey Mosque has dedicated prayer spaces, including the porch, the central prayer hall and the minaret. It has a rectangular layout, with walls built of stone and Adobe. The minaret has a circular layout and is made of stone. Interior wall paintings, made with floral, geometric motifs and parts from the Qur’an, were drawn in 2012. All the interventions that have been made since 1994 have made that in some places of the mosque not preserve the authenticity and values.
However, the mosque has been declared a cultural monument and is under temporary protection from the Kosovo Cultural Heritage Database.
