Seventh Day
A relaxing day at IETT Summer camp. Since yesterday was busy but full of fun activities, our little campers today spent the day inside the area of the MILENIUM Cultural Center. English lessons, building puzzles, swimming and playing games in the sport fields of our center, were some of the activities of today’s program.
Explore Tirana with the IETT Summer Camp!
The city of Tirana welcomes today the IETT Summer Camp! Under the perfect summer weather, not too hot nor too cold, our little campers had the pleasure of visiting some of the main attractions of the city center.
Their first stop was at Tirana Castle, a new public space in the capital, with traditional and modern shops. After taking a walk along the promenade, they visited “The Cloud”, which is an art installation that serves since 2016 as a modern art space for cultural events in Tirana. The delicate quality of the structure, augmented by its semi-transparent shape, like a cloud, as if it were a fog rising from the ripples of the park, were some of the qualities that caught the eye of its special visitors.
Then they visited the “National Historical Museum of Albania”, which is home to the great historical and cultural heritage of the country. Despite the specific interest of our camper, the National Historical Museum displayed the most interesting and significant periods of the history of Albania and certainly left them in absolute amazement.
Et’Hem Bey Mosque, one of the oldest and most historic monuments of the capital, a landmark of the city center of Tirana, was our next stop. Our campers were taught that it is one of the few religious sites spared by the communist regime’s anti-religious campaign, which destroyed many of the country’s historic religious monuments.
Also, to make a comparison between the old and the new, they paid a visit to the newest and largest mosque in Tirana, also known as the Namazgah Mosque. Still under construction, they found it interesting to see the ancient Ethem Bey Mosque and the modern, colossal Namazgah Mosque, 5 minutes walk from each other.
Last but not least, at the end of the trip, Radio Kontakt welcomed the IETT summer camp to its premises! Children were taught that planning and preparation is often the difference between a good radio program and an excellent radio program.
Ninth day
Our campers today had an excursion to the MILENIUM Printing House. One of our goals is for our campers to develop a healthy habit of reading books over two weeks. But to make it more fun, we found it interesting that they got to know the way a book is printed. The savvy staff at MILENIUM welcomed them and had a short session on various aspects of printing, tying and cutting. They answered our camper’s questions modestly, as they saw the whole process of printing a book until it was fully packaged and ready to be delivered to publishers or other clients. The rest of the day was devoted to water sports, cooking cakes and dyeing henna.
Tenth day
Field education field trips
It was a busy weekend at the IETT Summer Camp Our campers had the opportunity to travel to the city of a thousand windows of Albania, Berat and the ancient city of Apollonia. After visiting Tirana and its main tourist attractions, our age-appropriate trips this weekend coincided with the theme of the week, “Learning more about Albania”. This was a great opportunity for our campers to learn more about our country’s history by experiencing a new environment in a fun and safe way.
Such trips during these days, have provided them with influential educational experiences and enabled them to connect and gain respect for their community, their education and the natural world.
