On October 1-2 2022, the International Conference was held in Durres with the theme: “Islamic Literature in the Albanian Lnguage 1945-2022: Production and spread of Islamic knowledge in the region”, in collaboration with the Center of Advanced Studies, Sarajevo; AIITC, Tirana and the Cultural Center ‘Horizonti’, Podgorica. The purpose of this conference was the quantitive and qualitive analysis of the production of Islamic literature. The participants came from various scientific fields and disciplines, research – scientific institutions, state and private, education providers, institutions of Islamic religious communities, community leaders, teachers and preachers from Albania, Kosovo and North Macedonia. This conference was organized under the coordination of:

  • Instituse of Education, Heritage and Tourism (IETT)Tirana
  • The Albanian Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization (AIITC) Tirana in cooperation with:
  • Center for Advanced Studies (CNS) Sarajevo
  • The Center for Intercultural Understanding “Horizonti”, Podgorica and with the support of the International Institute of Islamic Thought, (IIIT), USA.

In the welcome session, the Director of IETT Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramiz Zekaj; Director of CNS, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Alibašić; General Secretary of IIIT Prof. Dr. Omar H. Kasule; Director of AIITC, Dr. Ardian Muhaj.

The first day of the conference had four sessions with lectures focusing on:

  • Topics and main authors
  • Religious texts versus contemporary translations
  • Currents of translation
  • Classic versus contemporary translations
  • Quality translations and publications
  • Readers of Islamic literature

This conference also brought a beneficial experience to the participants, as a result of the frequent interaction between them. During the two days of work, the referees presented the results of their recommendations on the future Islamic literature in the Albanian language in the country and in the diaspora.
