Butrint National Park is one of the most important areas of our country’s cultural, archaeological, environmental and touristic heritage. The extraordinary variety of natural habitats (from marine and wetlands in the west to mountain habitats in the east) and their intertwining with rare archaeological, historical and cultural sites creates a very unique landscape ëith ëorld heritage. The land surface and the islands constitute wonderful sea and land landscapes, the most important area in the country, where the Mediterranean evergreen shrubs and forest are preserved in a natural or almost natural state, where Ilqja, Rrënja, Vërriu, Vidhi, Frashëri, etc. prevail.
Inside the park is the main Archaeological centre of Butrint, while around it there are other monuments that testify to a civilization over 3000 years old. Also, inside it and near it there are several natural monuments with scientific, didactic and touristic values. A fantastic combination of marine, river, lagoon, plain and hill environments, where historical elements are quite present, such as the medieval castle of Ali Pasha Tepelena, and especially the archaeological ruins of the city of Butrint, dating back to the IV century B.C. For this reason, its archaeological part, on the Butrint Peninsula, has been declared part of UNESCO since 1999, which further increases the ecotourism attraction.
