On May 18 2022, the National Historical Museum of Albania organized the international scientific conference on the theme “The power of museums”, with the participation of represantives of cultural institutions and various researchers.
The director of the National Historical Museum of Albania, Dorian Koçi, during the opening speech of the conference, emphasized that today should serve to increase awareness of the fact that today should serve to increase aeareness of the fact that museums are an important means of cultural exchange, the enrichment of cultures and the development of understanding of mutual between peoples and that it is important to see what happens in Albanian museology.
“Museums, through collections, tell about our past and influence the modeling of new ideas, thus constituting two essential features in the design of a better future good. In a world that changes day by day, the biggest challenge of museums is reflected in their role in society”, said Koçi, referring to the conference.
He added that the questions being asked today about adapting the role of museums in society are reflected in three directions: the power of museums for sustainable development, the power of innovation in digitalization and accessibility in museums, and the power of museums for the improvement of society and community through continuing education through historical programs and collection. Another topic touched upon during the conference was the power of innovation in the digitization and accessibility of museums.
Digital innovation can make museums more accessible and engaging, helping audiences understand complex concepts such as the functioning of the first inhabited centers, the different layers of civilizations in urban centers, social stratification in urban centers, the life of different religious and ethnic communities, such as the case of the Jewish community in the urban centers of Europe, etc.
One such example was the virtual tour of the Museum of Apollonia. Technological developments such as scans and three-dimensional printing, three-dimensional reconstructions bring clarity to the architectural elements, the decor that these objects or monuments have. The detailed reconstruction of these objects gives researchers the opportunity to understand their every detail, but also the possibility to intervene in these objects and monuments with new and more precise techniques, eliminating the technical errors of interventions.
IETT appreciates the development of this scientific conference as one of the best ways to exchange ideas related to the promotion of museums, the history they present as well as the protection of Albania’s cultural heritage.
