A building where you will find inspiration more than anywhere else. The city of independence is one of the most visited places in all of Albania. Along the coast of this city, you will also find the residence of the Vlorë Government of 1912. Initially serving as a quarantine building, after the declaration of independence on November 28, 1912, it became the seat of the Provisional Government of Ismail Qemali for 14 months, until January 22, 1914.
From 1936 to 1939, it served as a historical museum. After 50 years since the declaration of independence, the building was declared a National Museum. The building consists of two floors, each with two windows. It also has two entrances, one facing the sea and the other in the opposite direction. When you are in front of it, your eyes are immediately drawn to the balcony where the flag was raised. There is always a proud flag there, symbolizing the traces of our history.
The museum is equipped with important documents, including photographs of Ismail Qemali and Isa Boletini. Inside the building, you can see the working cabinet and the meeting room of the Provisional Government of Ismail Qemali, original flags of the insurgent bands, original books of the Renaissance figures of that period, and several original objects of the “Old White Beard,” such as: the pen with the bronze eagle, the working chair, and more.
It is also worth noting that you will have excellent opportunities to see other original objects that reflect the efforts and struggles of the Albanian people for national liberation. One thing is certain: after completing your visit to this significant place in our history, you will experience indescribable national emotions.
