Shijak through the years, historical anthology of the city of Shijak, written with so much love and passion by the great deserved Shijak artist, painter, chronicler and moreover the initiator and promoter of culture in the city of Shijak, Mr. Agim Faja (1939-2017).
Agim Faja is known for visual art. One of the artists, who for decades has brought works that have received quite a bit of praise today, has been described as one of the greatest talents of Albanian painting. The works realized over the years of his creativity let you understand that the painter Agim Faja is a canvas artist. He finished his studies at the Higher Institute of Arts. He worked as a drawing teacher and as a painter. The main theme in his paintings was village life and the picture of the city of Shijak. He has illustrated over 100 titles, mostly for children. He has participated in many exhibitions, whose works have been exhibited at home and abroad. Some of his works are kept in the collection of the National Art Gallery in Tirana. He is known for his contribution to the training of painters and sculptors of the city of Shijak. In 1987 he was awarded the title of “Merited Painter” and in 1999 he was declared an Honorary Citizen of Shijak.
The book “Shijaku through the years” published by his sons, Ergys and Ardit Faja, based on the manuscripts of Agim Faja, is an added value for history and culture. The work starts with a preface and continues with the description of Shijak, its administrative division, its historical events, the origin of the name of Shijak, the province’s contribution to the struggle for national independence, the years of socialism, the love for language, culture and art. In this voluminous work, the author appears not only as a creative painter, but also as a model and exemplary citizen, who wanted to contribute to the life of this city.
